Simmons University

Simmons University

Skanska utilized Evercam's advanced monitoring technology, including job site cameras, for its $311 million Living and Learning Center project at Simmons University in Boston. Scheduled for completion in 2026, this center was a key component of the university's "One Simmons" initiative to consolidate all facilities onto a single, cohesive campus. The new building was designed to accommodate over 1,000 students, providing diverse social spaces, meeting rooms, modern dining facilities, and a comprehensive athletics center.

To manage the complexities of this large-scale project, Skanska implemented the Evercam platform to achieve several key objectives: enhancing safety through proactive hazard identification and incident documentation; ensuring insurance compliance, particularly with Zurich, the project's insurance funding group; streamlining project coordination and progress tracking via Evercam's BIM integration; and analyzing project performance to identify areas for improvement and inform risk-averse decision-making.

The earlier phases of the One Simmons initiative successfully introduced significant campus improvements, including modernized academic and health science facilities, upgraded library spaces, and areas tailored to student collaboration and accessibility. The final phase, centered around the Living and Learning Center, further advanced this vision by incorporating approximately 1,100 student beds, a two-level dining facility, a multi-level NCAA athletic, wellness, and recreation center, and expansive green rooftop spaces for community events. Additionally, enhancements to outdoor environments, such as the quad and labyrinth, were planned to foster a more integrated and engaging campus experience.

Line of Fire Prevention

On the Simmons University Living and Learning project, Skanska used Evercam to develop training material that they will use for safety teams beyond the scope of this project alone.
